I always knew I wanted a career in the arts, and I spent years trying different things but constantly fighting burnout.

All that changed when I realized that I could be paid many times over for work that I loved to create.

Now, I have a career that fuels me and that provides my family both a reliable income and the freedom to work when and where I want.

I learned through trial and error

When I was a teenager, trying to decide "What do I want to be when I grow up?" I knew that I loved art, but I never considered it a realistic choice. I guess I knew that there were some working artists in the world, but it didn't seem attainable.

I got my bachelor's degree in Fashion Design and planned to work for a fashion house in a major city, but when my husband's job moved us to a remote location, I couldn't find any jobs in my field.

So, I made one! I started hand-making custom clothing. But it didn't take me long to get burned out (sewing is exhausting!).

I saw an opportunity to switch to drawing and illustration, which I did for many years, but the vast majority of my work was custom, so if I couldn't work, I didn't get paid. And I was always trying to work more hours so that I could earn more.

After I had my second child (and my second unpaid maternity leave), I started looking for a way to earn more while working less.

My AHA! moment

Around the same time, I decided to pick up a paint brush for the first time in over 10 years, just for fun! I had always loved painting, and I thought that my creative itch could be scratched with fashion design and illustration, but it just wasn't.

My AHA! moment came when I realized I could sell my paintings. I could be a professional artist!

Even more amazing? I could reuse images of my work and be paid many times over for each piece.

The dream job I didn't know I wanted

Now, I have a job that I love to do every day. I have flexibility for my family, and I get paid even on my days off.

This isn't a job that's just for a select few. I believe anyone who is dedicated to making an art career work for them can be successful, too, and I'm on a mission to help you do just that!
